A Storm of Swords

What we got here is a cover design that I did for Mr Georg R.R Martins third book in his series a song of Ice and fire. I chose to try and depict Robb Stark as a tragic hero were the struggle for power can kill the weak but it can also kill the very strong. He won all the battles but lost the war. A man who ralied all of the northern men under one banner. The king in the north slayed for having the fickle heart of a teenager. so now some formal qualities the intent was to make a piece that was visceral but not gory gore allways cheepens a piece. no matter how cool it is gore will always make it look silly. Except for one piece of art whose aggresive intent has lasted through the ages The_Raft_of_the_Medusa but that is another post. The wolf head is inverted as a reference to the image of the hanged man or the martyr The_Hanged_Man in this way Robb becomes less of a warmonger and more of a sacrificial lamb, even with all his power and military force backing him. The nights are a reference to power by numbers. but even with all the might of the north backing him he was still snuffed out in the glory years of his life. The font is tall to accentuate the tall long composition. The font is a strong dark sans-serif this also helps to keep the Idea of  a strong visceral poster. In the end I made the poster so that it would work both as a poster and as a book cover adding some much needed maturity to the books covers that are currently in circulation.
